How to measure kitchen cabinet doors in 3 steps

You need a tape measure in millimetres, a screwdriver and about 15 minutes. Measure the old door itself, measure where the hinges and handle go, then choose how you want the new doors to look. Here is how, with a sheet you can print and fill in.

Step 1. Take the door off and measure the door

Unscrew the hinges from the cabinet side and lift the door off. Measure the door, not the cabinet opening, in millimetres: width first, then height. Measure every door, even ones that look the same, and write a number on a piece of tape on the back of each.

Step 2. Take the hardware off and measure the holes

Note which side the hinges are on, looking at the cabinet from the front. Measure from the top and bottom edges of the door to the centre of each hinge cup, and check the cup is 35mm across. Then measure the handle: the distance between its two holes, how far the holes are from the door edge and from the bottom or top, and whether it runs up and down or across. Take a photo of the back of the old door with the hardware still on.

If you are fitting new handles, you can leave the handle holes off and drill them yourself, or tell us the new spacing.

Step 3. Choose the style and colour

Pick a style (flat, shaker, slim shaker, Hampton), a finish (painted or PET) and a colour. Then put the sizes into the calculator and order online, or send us the sizes and photos for a checked quote.

Common mistakes

Before anything is made we send you a drawing of every door with its size, hinge holes and handle holes, so you get a second chance to catch a mistake.

Questions people ask

Should I measure the door or the cabinet opening?

The door. Replacement doors overlap the cabinet, so the old door already has the right overlap. If a door is missing, measure the opening and add 3mm overlap on each side that has no neighbouring door, or send us a photo and we will work it out with you.

Two doors look the same but measure 2mm apart. Which do I use?

Give us both sizes. Older kitchens are rarely exact, and a door made to the size it replaces fits the gap around it. We make each door to the size you send.

Do I need new hinges?

Usually not. Our doors are drilled for standard 35mm cup hinges (Blum, Hettich, Salice and most others), so your existing hinges screw straight back on if they are in good condition. Tell us the brand if you know it.

What if I get a measurement wrong?

We send you a drawing of every door with its size and holes before anything is made, so most mistakes are caught there. If a door still comes out wrong because of a measurement, we remake it at half the door price plus freight.

Can you measure for me?

Not for door-only orders. Doors are made to the sizes you send. For a whole new kitchen in Melbourne we can arrange an on-site measure.
